Across a number of weekends in October and November 2022, the Revenants and Remains programme will offer a series of guided tours, creative writing workshops and performances of ghost stories at each of the five selected sites. The guided tours will be led by Michael Carter and Dale Townshend, and will introduce participants to the supernatural history, lore and legend associated with each ecclesiastical ruin, from the medieval period to the present day.

So as to coincide with these tours, the award-winning poet, novelist and performer Rosie Garland will run creative-writing workshops at indoor venues nearby, supporting both new and established writers in producing their own creative literary responses to the ruins.

As night falls, the acclaimed performer and teller of ghost stories Robert Lloyd Parry of Nunkie Productions will regale audiences with a selection of chilling tales by the likes of M. R. James.

Public events will run alongside a series of Youth Engagement activities by Dominique Bouchard and English Heritage’s Shout Out Loud initiative. Further details will be announced here soon.

To conclude the year-long programme of events, the Revenants and Remains team will offer a one-day workshop for Heritage professionals on the theme of Gothic Tourism / Haunted Heritage.
